OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T updated to Oxygen OS 512, OnePlus 3 and 3T get Face Unlock with Oxygen OS 503
The OnePlus 3 and 3T have started receiving the Oxygen OS 5.0.3 update. The update brings with it Face Unlock, a feature that users of the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T have been enjoying. Along with Face Unlock, the smartphones have also been updated to the May 2018 security patch. The smartphones will also get more options for app shortcuts on the home screen when you long press them. The gallery app of the OnePlus 3 and 3T has received an update as well. You now have access to a “Recently Deleted” folder where you can easily access and restore deleted photos. The app now also comes with a maps view which will show you photos with their location, provided you had location turned on while shooting those images. If you have been using the Google Photos app, then these features are nothing new. Moving over to the OnePlus 5 and 5T, the smartphones are receiving the Oxygen OS 5.1.2 update. As of writing this story, we haven’t received the update on our OnePlus 5T. The update is 1.6GB in size and brings a number of changed including the May Android security patch. The update fixes the auto-rotation stability issues. It brings with it the same gallery features as the OnePlus 3 and 3T mentioned above. The update fixes Wi-Fi connectivity issues, brings double tap to lock the home screen and fixes microphone issues with AKG headphones. It’s nice to see OnePlus support old devices like the OnePlus 3 and 3T with updates. OnePlus recently launched its Snapdragon 845 powered smartphone called the OnePlus 6. The 6GB RAM/64GB storage variant of the OnePlus 6 is priced at Rs 34,999, whereas the 8GB RAM/128GB storage option will cost you Rs 39,999. The Marvel Avengers Limited Edition of the OnePlus 6 comes with the highest specs of the bunch with 8GB RAM/256GB of storage, and it is priced at Rs 44,999. The regular OnePlus 6 will be available in Mirror Black, Midnight Black, and the limited-edition Silk White colour variants. The OnePlus 6 features a 6.28-inch Optic AMOLED screen with a taller 19:9 display aspect ratio. It comes with an all-glass rear panel, but there’s no wireless charging support. It comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and supports Face Unlock as well. In terms of optics, the OnePlus 6 features two vertically stacked cameras where one is a 20MP Sony IMX519 sensor and another is a 16MP Sony IMX376K sensor. The rear camera supports both Electronic image stabilization (EIS) and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). The device's camera can also capture slow motion videos, but at HD resolution and at 480 fps for 60 seconds and not at the rumoured frame rate of 960fps. On the front is a 16MP sensor with a f/2.0 aperture lens. In our review of the OnePlus 6 we said, “The OnePlus 6 is built for speed from the ground up. The smartphone has the history of being a flagship killer, but despite the top-of-the-class hardware, the compromises in OnePlus phones have also remained consistent, so much so, that it is now acts as a deterrent to buy this over an expensive flagship. The OnePlus 6 is still just as fast, even more beautiful but has the same flaws as last time.”
