OnePlus Oxygen OS Open Beta brings international roaming requiring no SIM card

The latest open beta for the OnePlus 6 offers a bunch of new features including a new international roaming program for OnePlus 6 users. The changelog accessed by XDA Developers reveals the company will let people on international roaming surf the internet without having to buy a local SIM card or a roaming plan. It wont’ be free, though. While normally one would have to switch to a local connection or enable an international roaming plan on their existing carrier, OnePlus is offering a way to circumvent that. The feature is comparable to having a virtual SIM service that will only allow you to access the internet. You cannot make calls or send SMSes. However, being able to access the internet means you can at least make calls over WhatsApp. It will be a paid service however, and you will need to purchase a plan for the country/region you’re visiting. While the service is easily more hassle-free than having to get a new SIM in a foreign country, it’s more expensive. According to the report, a plan of 4GB data with a validity of 8 days will cost the user $23 (approx Rs 1,625) for users visiting India. The plans for those visiting the United States are even higher. It’s unclear whether Indian users will receive the feature although the changelog mentions that it should work globally in most countries and regions and when activated, it will list out the plans for the country/region the user is in. The plans can be purchased by going to Wi-Fi and Internet in the Settings app and enable it after reaching the destination. The beta also brings another new feature called Video Enhancer mode that “enhances colour” of the videos you’re watching and OnePlus claims it will offer a better viewing experience.
